Deputy Commander Woodruff served as a Global Community deputy commander until his death in book 23. Woodruff was responsible for the deaths of Taylor Graham and Hasina Kamen.

Biography[]

After the Rapture[]

At some unknown point during the Tribulation, Woodruff became a Global Community Deputy Commander. When Taylor Graham tried to attack the Global Community again in book 18, Woodruff and several other GC officers chased him to the hideout he and Hasina Kamen were staying at in Tel Aviv. Hasina tried to buy herself and Taylor some time by pretending that the place was wired with explosives, but Woodruff found out the truth and slapped Hasina. Taylor yelled at Woodruff not to hurt Hasina and Woodruff shot Taylor to death. When Hasina said she would gladly kill Nicolae Carpathia, Woodruff shot and killed her too. Judd Thompson Jr. heard what had happened through a cell phone he was using. Judd swore to Woodruff he wouldn't get away with his crime.

When Judd met Woodruff when he was imprisoned in book 19, Judd thought his voice sounded familiar but he couldn't place it.

Judd later saw in book 20 that Woodruff had arrested Jamal, Lina, and Nada. Woodruff accuses Jamal of providing shelter to enemies of the Global Community. When Jamal says that they have only spoken the truth, Woodruff then tells him to tell the truth of where Tsion Ben-Judah is hiding. As Woodruff continues speaking, Judd becomes even more convinced that he had met the man before the questioning. After Woodruff slaps Nada for quoting a Bible verse and yells at Jamal to shut up, Judd finally remembers where he heard Woodruff's voice.

Personality[]

Woodruff was described by Sam Goldberg as being "very tough." Woodruff was ruthless. Like many other Global Community officers, Woodruff was dedicated to the Global Community and hated Christianity and believers in it. This can be seen when he slapped Nada Ameer and insulted Mitchell Stein after they both talked to him about God. Woodruff was also cowardly and corrupt, as he murdered Taylor Graham and Hasina Kamen and then lied about the nature of their deaths.

Trivia[]

  • Woodruff made his first physical appearance in book 19, but his voice was first heard in book 18.
  • Woodruff's first name was never revealed.
  • Woodruff and Mr. Goldberg were treated in the same hospital after they were both stung in the fifth trumpet judgment.
  • Judd Thompson Jr. recognized Woodruff's voice but didn't know where he had met the man before he was questioned. It wasn't until Judd heard Woodruff's voice without seeing his face that Judd finally remembered that he was responsible for the deaths of Taylor and Hasina.
  • Woodruff was a commander in book 18, but in book 19 he is a deputy commander. It remains unknown if he was demoted or if this is a continuity error in writing.
  • If he was demoted, a possible explanation is that the Global Community did not approve of the fact that Woodruff killed Taylor and Hasina before they could reveal any information about rebels against the Global Community.
  • Woodruff placed trackers in Judd Thompson Jr.'s and Sam Goldberg's clothing, hoping that they would lead them to other believers.
  • Deputy Commander Woodruff does not appear in the audio drama presentation. His role in confronting Jamal's family and Judd is taken over by Mr. Goldberg.
