Nicolae Carpathia High School, also known as Nicolae High, formerly Prospect High School, was a high school renamed to glorify Nicolae Carpathia. The school was located in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Judd Thompson Jr., Vicki Byrne, Lionel Washington, Shelly Malloy, John Preston, Mark Eisman, Janie McCanyon, and Marjorie Amherst were former students at this school. John, Mark, and Marjorie graduated from this school. Judd was expelled for his speech in book 8. Lionel left Nicolae Carpathia High School in book 11, thinking he was going to be with family members. Janie was sent away for hiding drugs in her locker in book 8.
The Young Tribulation Force spread their message multiple times at Nicolae Carpathia High School, mostly through their underground newspaper. It was where the persecution of the Young Tribulation Force began. Vicki was sent away for her involvement with the Underground, though she eventually returned. In book 11, Vicki was caught with copies of The Underground at Nicolae Carpathia High School. In the Wrath Of The Lamb earthquake, the school was destroyed. Shelly was attempting to clear Vicki's name when she heard about what happened and her ear bled when the earthquake occurred. Laverne Jenness, the principal of Nicolae Carpathia High School, was killed in the earthquake.
In The Underground, John Preston remarked that enrollment at Nicolae Carpathia High School was about 2,300 before the Rapture. He estimated that 500 students were raptured, so the Young Tribulation Force would need to print approximately 1,800 copies of the The Underground newspaper if they want every student to receive a copy.
In an assembly at the beginning of Judd's senior year, Principal Jenness said that she hoped that in twenty years the students would be able to reflect on their tenure at Nicolae Carpathia High School and regard it as "a time of unprecedented peace and learning". When Judd heard that, he thought to himself that in six years, he would not be thinking of that place at all, perhaps because he thought that he would be facing far worse repression near the end of the Tribulation or that he would be deceased in heaven. Even though Judd was the salutatorian, he was expelled for delivering a speech where he proclaimed the Gospel. Judd did not mind getting expelled since he did not plan to go to college since there was a short time until Jesus' return.
The Mascot of the Nicolae Carpathia High School is the Doves, which, before the school's name was changed to honor Nicolae Carpathia, was the Knights. The name is rather fitting for climate of the Tribulation when some of the Young Tribulation Force attended Nicolae High, which was a relatively calm period in the stories. They were in school during the signing of the treaty with the United Nations and Israel, which signified the opening of the first Seal and the emergence of the white horse. Only a short time after World War III (the red horse), which marked the end of the season of peace, the school was finally destroyed in the Wrath of the Lamb.
The school's newspaper is called The Olive Branch after the Rapture.
The school was never seen again after book 13, though it is mentioned and thought of during the rest of the series.
