In Jewish messianic tradition and eschatology, Messiah (from the Hebrew mashiah, which means "The Anointed One") refers to a future King of Israel from the Davidic line, who will rule the people of the united tribes of Israel, and herald the Messianic Age of global peace. While the Jews are still looking for their Messiah to come at this present time, Christians proclaim that Jesus, the Son of God, has already come as the Messiah to pay for our sins on the cross with His blood and will be coming again as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords to fulfill the expected prophecy of global peace.

In the Left Behind books, Nicolae Carpathia is seen by the Jews for a time to be their Messiah, though he has no known lineage to King David as far as what was revealed about him, but his actions which include the desecration of the Temple reveal that he was actually the Antichrist.
