Mel Odom (born December 16, 1957) is an American writer. He is a full-time author of dozens of books in many genres, including science fiction, fantasy, suspense, mystery, romance, western, and horror.I n 2002, his novel The Rover won the prestigious National Library Association's Alex Award, and in 1995 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Professional Writers' Hall of Fame.

Early life[]

Odom graduated from Byng High School in Byng, Oklahoma in May 1976, and later graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He teaches undergraduate courses at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Professional Writing program at the University of Oklahoma. He resides in Oklahoma with his wife and five children. In addition to being a writer, he is a hobbyist gardener and carpenter.

The Left Behind series[]

In 2003, he published Apocalypse Dawn, the first book in a military spin-off series that is based of the enormously popular Left Behind Series. The first book made the Christian bestseller list.
