Loren Hut is a minor antagonist in the Left Behind series. He was the head of the Global Community Morale Monitors who was assigned by Nicolae Carpathia to enforce order during the Potentate's visit to Jerusalem.
Biography[]
After the Rapture[]
He was apparently disturbed by Carpathia's sadism in his detailed account on how to deal with dissidents by shooting them with nine rounds in his side arm (both hands, feet, knees, shoulder with the coup de grace in the forehead where the mark should be) and having the corpse hauled off to be decapitated. Loren had just taken the "mark of loyalty" and worshiped Carpathia's image, so when he attempted to assassinate "Micah" (Chaim Rosenzweig) live on camera as a public example to any who would dare oppose Carpathia, he was suffering from the plague of boils from the first Bowl Judgment. Loren shot several bullets at Micah in the manner Carpathia vividly described to him, but was unable to kill him because God was supernaturally protecting him. During the incident with Micah, a witness taunted Loren by saying that this was a joke and that Loren's gun was only shooting blanks. Loren responded in frustration to the charge that his gun was shooting blanks, saying, "You'd bet your life on that?" and proceeded to shoot the man in the sternum, killing him, which demonstrated that he was using live ammunition.
Afterward, he was summoned to the Phoenix 216 to meet with Carpathia. He was irritated at Carpathia's attempt at humor when he referred to Hut's "inaccurate shooting". Carpathia pointed out that Hut did not address him with the proper title, while Hut responded with sarcasm. This sarcasm along with Hut's assertion that Carpathia himself could not have killed Micah upset Carpathia to the point that he requested Suhail Akbar's sidearm (Walter Moon's sidearm in the Dramatic Audio). Hut defiantly said, "You are nothing to me, Carpathia." Carpathia then shot him to death.
